Chicago Bungalow and Vintage Home Expo

CHICAGO (September, 11 2014): Back by popular demand, the Chicago Bungalow and Vintage Home Expo 2014 and 2015—Chicago's largest and most popular home restoration, preservation and sustainable renovation expo, is returning—but with a difference. Rather than one downtown location as in the past, the Expo will be brought to the neighborhoods: one on the South side and one on the North side of Chicago.
2014 Expo South will be held on Saturday, October 25, from 10am to 1pm at The Jacoby D. Dickens Center (JDC) at Chicago State University, 95th and King Drive.
Expo North will be held on March 7, 2015 at a location to be determined.
The non-profit Historic Chicago Bungalow Association (HCBA) produces The Chicago Bungalow and Vintage Home Expo. Created in 2002 as the Historic Chicago Bungalow Expo and expanded in 2006 to include green home renovation resources, this event is continually evolving. Exhibitors provide information and resources to HCBA's 20,000+ members, as well as owners of any older homes, looking to preserve, update or improve energy efficiency in their home.
More than 50 exhibitors, including tradespeople, artisans, non-profits, and government agencies, will benefit homeowners or potential homebuyers who attend the events looking for products and expertise on everything from energy efficient appliances to rehabbing woodwork.
The Expos will also offer 4 workshops and special presentations with live demos, selected from HCBA's popular Seminar Series. Topics will include: “From Doors to Floors: Restoring Wood Interiors”, “Vintage Masonry”, “Plaster Repair”, “Putting Your Garden to Bed for the Fall”, and “Expanding Attic Spaces”.
Additionally, the American Institute of Architects Chicago "Ask an Architect" will have stations for attendees to sit face-to-face with expert residential architects and discuss potential projects at no cost. Similar sessions held by non-profit and government agencies will also be available for those who seek assistance on financing a home purchases or renovations. Headlining speakers from popular HGTV shows and elected officials will help kick-off the event.
“This time around, we are thrilled to bring the Expos to the neighborhoods,” said Mary Ellen Guest, Executive Director of the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association. “As the economy recovers, more and more people are ready and excited to stay put and invest in their homes, making it more important than ever to make the Expo accessible, and connect homeowners with trusted professionals who possess the skills and products needed to adapt and maintain our homes, as well as make them more energy-efficient.”
Admission and parking is free, and The Jacoby D. Dickens Center (JDC) at Chicago State University can be easily reached by public transportation.

By offering owners and potential buyers financial and technical resources to aid in the preservation and acquisition of Chicago bungalows, this program has helped more than 15,000 homeowners throughout the City to purchase, restore, and modernize bungalows for today’s lifestyles and energy needs.
