Made in New Jersey: A Celebration of Decorative and Fine Arts

October 7-30, 2014
Made in New Jersey: A Celebration of Decorative and Fine Arts
“Made in New Jersey: A Celebration of Decorative and Fine Arts” exhibit closing October 30th

“Made in New Jersey: A Celebration of Decorative and Fine Arts” is currently on display in the second floor gallery at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum (MHHM) through October 30th. The exhibit honors the 350th New Jersey Anniversary and showcases the Museum’s collection of New Jersey stoneware, silver, and the work of artists such as Thomas Nast, A.B. Frost and Edward Kranich. Thomas Nast, known as the father of American political cartooning, lived in Morristown, NJ for over thirty years.

Many of the political cartoons that brought Boss Tweed to justice, and many of his famous images of Santa Claus were drawn right here in New Jersey in the late nineteenth century.  Artists A.B. Frost and Edward Kranich both lived in New Jersey for over 25 years.  Each earned fame for his specialties: Kranich for evocative New Jersey landscapes and Frost for exquisitely detailed sporting scenes, and illustrations in Joel Chandler Harris’s books featuring characters like Uncle Remus, Br’er Rabbit, and others. The exhibit  also features examples of New Jersey stoneware
from such makers as Noah Furman and Charles Wingender, and works in silver by New Jersey silversmiths including Cary Dunn and Aaron Lane. There are also a number of historic postcards featured in the exhibit all of which date from around the turn of the twentieth century. The collection focuses on Morristown sites including churches, historic locations and railroad stations.

MHHM preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through its historic site,
collections, exhibits, and educational and cultural programs. MHHM is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation.  MHHM is open for house and exhibit tours on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The last tour ticket is sold at 3pm. Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members
and children under 5 are free. The gardens are open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm
and Sundays 1pm - 4pm unless posted otherwise. Please check our website for any
holiday closings. Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 10, visit our website www.maccullochhall.org find us on Facebook. MHHM, 45 Macculloch Ave.,
