ENCORE PRESENTATION - Back by popular Demand Historic Overview of the National Lighthouse Museum Site and Buildings of the Staten Island Lighthouse Depot.

Join NLM members & friends for a talk, followed by a walk around the site, with our guest lecturer, Mark Anderson AIA. The talk will illustrate site documentation such as historic maps, site plans and photographs, to gain an understanding of the site as it evolved over the past 150 years.

Mr. Anderson began researching the site through his thesis, sixteen years ago, while in the Masters of Historic Preservation program at Columbia University. Mr. Anderson is a historic preservation architect and the Vice President for Facade Maintenance Design, an architecture and engineering firm with offices in NYC and New Orleans. He is the Vice President of the Westerleigh Improvement Society and creator of the monthly Westerleigh Talks lecture series, as well as the chairman of the Education Committee of the Staten Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Prior to the Lighthouse Depot, the site was a portion of the Quarantine Station, became the General Lighthouse Depot in the 1800s, used as a Coast Guard Base, and served as the home of the Harbor Pilots. Many of the Depot buildings were demolished to make way for the Staten Island Ferry Maintenance Building in the late 1980s. The buildings have been abandoned for several decades. The site was chosen as the National Lighthouse Museum and Building 11 has been converted as the beginning of the National Lighthouse Museum. Plans are being made to turn most of the remaining Depot buildings and site into retail space and new residential buildings on the upland side of the site.

Admission is limited, so register early!

Refreshments will be served.
