2015 Docent Training (Explore Buffalo)

February 7 - April 25, 2015

Do you enjoy promoting Buffalo? Are you looking for a fun way to volunteer and support our city's renaissance? If so, you may be interested in becoming a volunteer docent for Explore Buffalo!

No experience or background in Buffalo history or architecture is required - all that is necessary is an interest in and passion for Buffalo's history and architecture. As part of docent training, we supply new docent trainees with the background information and tools they need to give a great tour, not a script to be memorized. We encourage our docents to develop their own knowledge of Buffalo and unique voice as a storyteller conveying the growing and changing story of our city.

Class Details:
  • Saturday mornings, 9 AM - 12 PM
  • February 7 - April 25, 2015 (no class on April 4)
  • Course fee: $75
The first five weeks, held at First Presbyterian Church on Symphony Circle, will be a chronological introduction to Buffalo history; architectural styles; and general docent skills. Weeks 6-8 will be specific training for our Masters of American Architecture downtown walking tour; and Weeks 9-11 will be specific training for our Buffalo Classics downtown walking tour.

An application is required, and is currently available online. The online application will be followed by a phone call to discuss the Docent Training program.

Click here for more information about docent training and the online application.
