Linden Place Museum Presents A Series on the Work and Life of Architect, Russell Warren

April 29 - May 2, 2015
Linden Place Museum Presents A Series on the Work and Life of Architect, Russell Warren
Linden Place is pleased to present a two-part series about Russell Warren, one of New England’s most renowned architects of the 19th century, known for his wide use of the Greek Revival style. In addition to his popular work throughout Rhode Island, including Linden Place Mansion in Bristol and the Providence Arcade, America’s oldest indoor shopping mall, Warren’s architecture can be seen throughout Massachusetts, South Carolina, New York, Georgia and Canada. The series will feature both a lecture and walking tour led by David Harrington, who has recently begun "The Russell Warren Project", a community based research effort surrounding the work and history of Russell Warren.

The first segment of the series features a lecture surrounding the life and times of Russell Warren with focus on his work in Bristol. The lecture will take place in the historic parlors of Linden Place Mansion at 500 Hope Street in Bristol, RI on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m.  This event is free for Linden Place members and $5 for the general public.

The second section of the series features a guided walking tour around downtown Bristol to experience the architecture of Warren first hand. The tour begins at Linden Place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd and continues along the tree-lined streets where many Warren-designed homes still exist. Tour goers will have special access to interiors of select private homes. The cost for the tour is $10 for members and $15 for the general public. Comfortable attire appropriate for walking is suggested.

Purchase tickets for both the lecture and walking tour and receive a discount, making the price for both events $18. Advanced registration is necessary and can be made by calling the Linden Museum office at 401-253-0390.
