Summer Adventures Program - "Under the Trees"
July 13-16, 2015 |
This summer, at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum (MHHM), three Summer Adventure Programs are planned for Webelos and Girl Scouts. Scouts can earn badges at these programs but other children are welcome to participate, as being a Scout is not a requirement.
The first session “Under the Trees” runs July 13 to 16 and is designed for Webelos Scouts. Activities meet requirements for the Forester, Naturalist, and Artist Webelos
Activity Badges. Using the garden and 19th century home of George Macculloch,
Webelos Scouts and friends will explore nature in New Jersey, learn about different types of trees and how their wood was used in homes and for furniture in the 1800s. They will also complete a portfolio of artwork for the Artist Webelos activity badge.
Other sessions include “Summer in The Secret Garden” from July 27 to 30, where Junior Girl Scouts and their friends will follow the life of Mary Lennox, main character of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic children’s book “The Secret Garden”, and Scouts can earn the Animal Habitats, Gardener, and Detective badges. From August 10 to 13, Brownie Girl Scouts and their friends can also explore a “Summer in The Secret Garden”, where they can earn their Making Friends, Making Games, and Bugs badges.
The Summer Adventure Programs take place Monday to Thursday from 9am – 12 noon. Pre-registration is required. Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email
