Boy Scouts "Architecture Past and Present"

October 13, 2015
Boy Scouts "Architecture Past and Present"
This fall Macculloch Hall Historical Museum (MHHM) will offer the Boy Scout program “Architecture: Past and Present” on Tuesday, October 13th from 4:30 – 6:30pm.
Boy Scouts will use 19th century Macculloch Hall and Morristown’s first Historic District to meet all five requirements of the Boy Scout’s Architecture Merit Badge. During the program activities will help boys compare building styles and trends today with those of the past as they closely examine one of Morristown’s historic neighborhoods during a 45-minute walking tour. Scouts will discuss the differences between renewable building materials and recycled building materials as they are used in construction, and will role-play an “architect-client” interview with a peer addressing requirements and goals of a building project. Scouts will then be introduced to three career options in architecture and learn to make a scale drawing.

Activities are led by an instructor approved as a Merit Badge Counselor in Architecture who can sign Boy Scout blue cards upon completion of the requirements. Pre-registration is required. Please call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email
cwinslow@maccullochhall.org. Cost for the program is $10 per scout and $5 per
adult. Maximum group size is 20 participants.

MHHM also offers programs for Cub Scouts, please visit maccullochhall.org for more information. Programs for Girl Scouts are also available, to participate girls must be registered Girl Scouts and complete the registration form found at https://www.gsnnj.org/Things-to-Do/Girl-Programs/Pages/default.aspx To become a registered Girl Scout, please visit www.gsnnj.org and click on the "Join" button.
