The Forbes House Museum's Annual Keechong Dinner
October 29, 2015 |
The Keechong Dinner tradition began in 1879, established by the partners of Perkins & Co. and Russell & Co. to renew the ties of friendship formed during their trading years in China and exchange the latest news of events in China. The Annual Keechong Dinner is a continuation of that tradition. "Keechong" means literally "flag of American prosperity" - a reference to the blue and white flag flown by both Perkins and Russell companies, which symbolized American maritime and commercial supremacy.
