Special Series on Buying and Selling Bungalows (Chicago Bungalow Association)

April 18 - June 6, 2016

The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association (HCBA) has been experiencing a significant increase in requests for information about buying and selling bungalows. Alongside a strong Spring housing market, HCBA has noticed more and more young couples and families recognizing the value of not only the materials and craftsmanship of Chicago bungalows, but the unparalleled opportunities to adapt, maintain, and grow into Chicago’s signature family-home—finishing basements and attics can potentially triple the living space. While younger generations are moving in, some of HCBA’s baby boomer members are ready to downsize, and asking for advice and assistance in selling their bungalows.

To fill these multigenerational needs, HCBA has partnered with Realtor Ellen Baren to create a 3-part series on buying and selling bungalows in Chicago—now open for online registration. This special series will be held at Sulzer Regional Library and will be repeated in the Fall at a South Side location:

Topics include:

Adding Value Through Curb Appeal

How the public views your property will draw people in or keep people away! Let the hardscape architectural details set the tone and the landscape guide your creativity. Ellen will review color & shape, historical & modern plantings and garden location considerations.

Date/Time: Monday, April 18, 6:30pm
Location: Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N Lincoln Ave, 60625

Modern Closets 101
Today’s households need lots of storage! Take a look with Ellen at the do’s and don’ts of updating & creating closets and additional storage in your classic bungalow. Find out how and why Chicago’s 100 year old floor plans are both giving and forgiving.

Date/Time: Monday, May 2, 6:30pm
Location: Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N Lincoln Ave, 60625

Adding Value Through Home Sale Interior Prep

A little to the right, a little to the left, a framed mirror and why would I do that!? Ellen will share the basic ins and outs of easy-to-do staging your home for the photo shoot, the WOW(!) factor and the marketing of your property.

Date/Time: Monday, June 6, 6:30pm
Location: Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N Lincoln Ave, 60625

All seminars are free of charge and open to the public. Limited space is available. RSVP is required to reserve a seat.

Ellen Baren, REALTOR, broker owner of Ellen Baren Real Estate Group and licensed with @properties, specializes in Chicago’s variety of north side communities and the near north suburbs. She has successfully sold over 100 historic properties in the last 9 years.

Ellen is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has lived in Chicago her entire adult life. Raised in Oak Park, her interests include architectural history, community building through gardening and helping her clients with their housing transitions.

The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association was created in 2000 to celebrate and ensure the longevity of Chicago’s bungalow neighborhoods. By offering owners and potential buyers financial and technical resources to aid in the preservation and acquisition of Chicago bungalows, this program has helped more than 20,000 homeowners throughout the City to purchase, restore, and modernize bungalows for today’s lifestyles and energy needs.
