Jacqueline Kennedy's Historic Preservation Legacy

Flemington, NJ – Historian Kathleen Galop celebrates the 50th anniversary of preserving structures in America through the Historic Preservation Act with a talk, Jacqueline Kennedy’s Historic Preservation Legacy, at the Historic Courthouse, 71 Main Street, Flemington on May 10, 2016 at 7:30 pm. The talk, hosted by the
Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission, is made possible through
funds from the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the
Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The
program is free and open to the public.
Littlehas been told about the instrumental role Jacqueline Kennedy played in creating the climate for the passage of the Historic Preservation Act of 1966. This talk offers a fascinating look behind the scenes of how “Jackie” stopped the
bulldozers and set the course for preserving historic structures.
Currently a Fellow at the Institute on Ethnicity, Culture and the Modern Experience at the Newark, NJ campus of Rutgers –The State University, Kathleen Galop is an
attorney with extensive experience and a national reputation in the administration of historic preservation projects for parks and structures. Whatever her role—as advisor, lecturer, author, instructor, or fund-raiser—she has reaped success. She earned a B.A. degree in History from Caldwell College for Women, Caldwell, NJ and a J.D. degree from The Dickinson School of Law of The Pennsylvania State University, Carlisle.
