Founding Fathers Day

June 10-11, 2016
Founding Fathers Day
President Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying, “Chautauqua is the most American thing in America”. The Joplin Historical Society on behalf of the Joplin History & Mineral Museum will host the first Founding Father’s Day - Chautauqua production. The Society extends an invitation to enjoy an evening with Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman on Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th.

Through the art of a Chautauqua performance, not only does an actor speak the words and tell stories of a period character, they dress the era & mimic their mannerisms; the actor becomes who they are presenting.

Friday, June 10th, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
- Historic Joplin Little Theater, 3008 W. 1st Street, Joplin, MO.
- Beer & wine cash bar
- The Evening headliner will be President Theodore Roosevelt, portrayed by Dr. Doug Mischler.
- President Roosevelt was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. Brad Belk, Director for the Joplin History & Mineral Museum states, “Mishler’s presentations are exciting, informative, and unforgettable.”
Saturday, June 11th, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Joplin History & Mineral Museum, 504 S. Schifferdecker Avenue, Joplin, MO.
- Afternoon headliner will be President Harry S. Truman, portrayed by Mr. Bill Worley.
- President Truman was a man of common people for the common people, but there was a great deal about him that was quite uncommon.

These events are fun for any age. Period costumed characters will be onsite.
Performances are $10.00 per show or $17.00 for both shows. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Joplin History & Mineral Museum or at the May 19th Third Thursday, credit card and cash will be accepted.

Proceeds from these events go to furthering The Joplin History & Mineral Museum commitment to creating exhibitions that inspire our diverse audiences to engage deeply with Joplin and its mining history. We see our visitors as partners in actively exploring exhibition content. Sponsored in part by the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Joplin Historical Society, and Friends of the Museum.
