History of Quilting in America

Fri., Sept. 23rd, the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet and the Islip Public Library
will co-host American Quilter’s Society (AQS) Certified Quilt Appraiser, Dana Balsamo, who will offer a special after-hours lecture for adults on the history of quilting in America. Ms. Balsamo will show examples of quilts and textiles from the 1780s to the present day. If you own a vintage or antique quilt for which you would like some history, please let us know at the time of registration. A limited number of quilts will be evaluated for a mock verbal appraisal.
Ms. Balsamo is owner of Material Pleasures, LLC, a New Jersey firm that specializes in antique and vintage textiles. Between 6:30 and 7pm, light hors d’oeuvres and
sparkling cider will be served. Enjoy an evening snack prior to the program as you view vintage quilts that will be on display in the lecture room. No children will be permitted into the program.
