The Thomas Jefferson Craft Beer Tasting Returns to Poplar Forest

April 15, 2017

Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest has announced a stellar lineup of regional craft breweries and cideries for the fourth annual Thomas Jefferson Craft Beer Tasting, held on Saturday, April 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Craft beer enthusiasts are invited to join thousands of like-minded folks on Jefferson’s south lawn to enjoy a beautiful spring afternoon tasting a variety of the best craft brews and hard ciders around. Regional favorites returning to the festival include Apocalypse Ale Works of Forest; Blue Mountain Brewery of Afton, Bold Rock Hard Cider of Nellysford, Devils Backbone Brewing Company of Roseland, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery of Richmond, South Street Brewery of Charlottesville and Star Hill Brewery of Charlottesville. Three breweries—Brothers Craft Brewing of Harrisonburg, Chaos Mountain Brewing of Callaway and Goose Island Brewery of Chicago, Illinois—will make their festival debut. Graze on local fare by El Cabrito’s International Grill Company, Gregory’s Grill and Grillizza Pizza; listen to live music by Sub-Radio (11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and the Steve Freeman Band (2:00 to 4:30 p.m.); shop for works by local artisans such as Alpaca by Jaca, Favored Flavors, Hops and Nuts, and Plantation Peanuts of Wakefield; and tour Jefferson’s private retreat at a discounted rate.

The Thomas Jefferson Craft Beer Tasting is held on the south lawn of Poplar Forest, rain or shine. Because this is an adult event, there are no children’s activities scheduled. Outside food and drink are not allowed. With the exception of service dogs, pets are prohibited.

Tickets for the new VIP Tasting experience that includes exclusive craft beer tastings, heavy hors d’oeuvres and an audience with Mr. Jefferson in a private tent on the rooftop of the villa’s service wing are $125 per person or $225 per couple. General admission tickets for 20 tastings are $30 in advance and $35 at the door; tickets for 10 tastings are available for $25 at the door (must show valid ID); tickets for 10 additional tastings can be purchased for $10 the day of the event. Designated driver and non-drinking tickets are $10.

The Thomas Jefferson Craft Beer Tasting is sponsored by Virginia is for Lovers, Virginia Eagle Distributing Co., Blue Mountain Brewery, Progress Printing and The News and Advance. Proceeds from the Thomas Jefferson Craft Beer Tasting help to support the ongoing restoration of the villa and landscape at Poplar Forest.
