Restore Michiana 2017 Workshop Series: Wood Window Repair

The Restore Michiana partnership of Indiana Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County is pleased to invite you to attend Restore Michiana 2017 Workshop Series, four informative events on how to improve interior and exterior elements around the house. Restore Michiana is an annual series for owners of vintage homes, contractors and students. Participants will learn best practices from experts in the field for a wide variety of repair and restoration topics. The upcoming April 22 workshop will focus on plaster/drywall repair. Paul Hayden, of Indiana Landmarks, will provide an overview of wall materials and lathe types, mixing plaster, modern drywall mud, taping and repair techniques, history of modern drywall and its use in rehab, safe practices and tips for making the tasks more manageable. Hands-on opportunities include: hanging drywall, repairing existing plaster, drywall, taping and mudding. This workshop will be held at the carriage house of Kizer House, 803 West Washington Street, South Bend, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. On-line registration for this $10 workshop is available at https://restoremichiana2017.eventbrite.com. Restore Michiana events continue on the third Saturday bimonthly through October 21, covering topics from re-pointing brick to replicating historic trim using stock trim.Locations vary throughout St. Joseph County; see www.RestoreMichiana.com for event locations.

Schedule: 
  • Plaster/Drywall Repair: April 22nd, 9 am to Noon
  • Re-pointing Brick: June 17th, 9 am to 4 pm (lunch included)
  • Wood Window Repair: August 19th, 9 am to Noon
  • Woodwork: Using stock trim to replicate historic trim: October 21st, 9 am to Noon
Registration: Cost for June workshop is $15; other workshops are $10. Reservations can be made through the Eventbrite link at https://restoremichiana2017.eventbrite.com.
