Architectural Aluminum in the 21st Century:Design&Preservation of Contemporary&Historic Architecture

Architectural Aluminum in the 21st Century – an intensive international conference organized by Technology & Conservation, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's MIT Museum, and the Boston Society of Architects' Historic Resources Committee – is the latest in our series of biennial conferences on architectural materials. This informative conference will feature presentations by over 35 noted architects, engineers, conservators, scientists, and aluminum industry leaders on the usage of aluminum for facades, building envelopes, building components, bridges, and works of art.
Topics will include:
-- structural, mechanical, corrosion-resistance, fire-resistance, and other properties of aluminum and its alloys and how these affect performance and durability
-- new developments in fabrication and finishes
-- case histories on the restoration/preservation of iconic aluminum buildings, including Alcoa's headquarters building and the USAF Academy's Cadet Chapel
-- case histories detailing innovative design of several modern aluminum structures in Europe, the UK, Asia, the Middle East, and America that represent a variety of building types (including education, religious, cultural institutions; military and government structures; residential and commercial buildings)
-- the conservation of major works of art...and much more.
In addition, following this Sat., March 24-March 25, 2018 conference, there will be an optional tour program on Monday, March 26.
