Gems of South Mission Hills House Tour
September 22, 2018 |
Mission Hills Heritage is hosting its 14th annual Historic Home Tour on Saturday, September 22, from 10am-4pm. The eight houses open for you will showcase an eclectic mix of styles: Spanish, Tudor, Craftsman, and Prairie. Our docents will point out architectural elements that define each different style from the outside and highlight the similarities of interior styling that are common to many of the houses from the early 1900s.
The houses range from small and cozy to expansive and stately. All of them have been updated for 21st century technology, and adapted for modern lifestyles. They maintain their outward style identity, some historically intact and some with updated architectural elements. One of the houses has been used for movies, weddings and other special events and still has its original light fixtures, ornate iron railings, columns, arches and stained-glass windows. Bruce & Alana Coons of SOHO guided another homeowner in the restoration and expansion process. It was a featured home in San Diego Home & Garden Magazine. There are locally interesting historic figures whose lives unfolded within these walls and we will give you a glimpse into who they were.
As always, our complimentary almost-famous homemade cookies and beverages will be served at one of the houses. Our consultant historian will be on hand to answer questions. Socialize with others who share your interest in old houses and historic neighborhoods.
Advance tickets for the Home Tour are encouraged. Purchase them online at
MissionHillsHeritage.org before noon on September 21 to save $5.00 on each
