The Evolution of Maryland Heritage Properties     

Nancy McDonald McGuire is first and foremost a preservationist. An ‘old house person,’ she was reared in an 18th century brick telescope house where she lived the wonders of an historic property. As an adult she enjoyed restoring houses and exploring the value of past architectural styles, building methods, and materials. Asn 18th century building has always been home.

While pursuing a career in real estate, she discovered that old buildings fell through the cracks of the market. These architectural treasures were misunderstood, poorly presented, and terribly difficult to find in the maze of new construction.    

The world of old houses continued to beckon and inspire. After serving as the Historic Site Director for Preservation Maryland at Waverly (ca. 1740), Nancy became more convinced than ever of the unique value of old buildings and so returned to the real estate profession dedicated to representing vintage architecture. Maryland Heritage Properties evolved from a belief that more properties can be saved if there is a marketplace for them whatever the condition.    

Nancy McGuire’s knowledge and experience, of almost four decades, has founded a refined, tailored approach to represent buildings that integrates the care and understanding these irreplaceable resources deserve. Her concept combines both the non-profit world of old buildings, where they are understood and applauded, and the for-profit world of real estate exchange.

To execute this sound approach, a knowledgeable team of professionals collectively represents Maryland Heritage Properties.  She continues her involvement in historic preservation including as a member of the Chestertown Historic District Commission. Chestertown is one of only three towns in Maryland on the National Register.
