Property History
Amos Neff built this amazing home for his wife and 10 children, 5 sons and 5 daughters, in the early 1900’s. Amos and his brother John Neff along with Porter Rockwell came to Salt Lake City with Brigham Young in 1847. They were a very affluent and educated family.

John Neff sold everything at a great sacrifice but brought his milling machinery with him to the Salt lake Valley and reassembled it and built a grist mill. It was located at Evergreen and Oakwood Street from the lumber he cut out of Neff’s Canyon, which is now known as Olympus Cove. All of the lumber used to build Amos and John's homes was brought out of this canyon. John’s house is three houses east and is a greater version of Amos's house.

The history of this home is fascinating. Amos lived to be 88 years of age. He raised his family here. One of his daughters married Porter Rockwell, (Brigham Young's body guard), and he resided in the home for some time. There was as gunfight in the front yard resulting from a horse deal gone bad. You can still see the marks from the shotgun pellets today. Yes the Wild West is full of colorful stories.

The mill on Oakwood and Evergreen was sold and later demolished and the property was sold to the Silver Queen of Park City. She operated a dance hall on the old site and some of her relatives, the Lamb’s still live on the property. This mansion is southeast and can be seen from the house.

East Millcreek (Salt Lake City) is a prestigious area rich with history. There are many pioneer homes in this beautiful neighborhood.
