Historic real estate listing for sale in Chelsea, MA

Property History
The Soldiers' Home in Chelsea, founded to house destitute Civil War veterans, has provided continuous occupancy for Veterans since 1882. The property transferred to Commonwealth ownership by deeds in 1934. In its history, the SHC has been one of the largest and longest-operating state-owned Soldiers’ Homes in the United States.

Property Description
This is an RFP for a long-term lease public private partnership offering. The Domiciliary Campus contains 9 structures – eight residential and administrative buildings and a central power plant – that total approximately 266,000 SF. The core of the complex consists of a group of buildings on either side of Crest Avenue in Colonial and Classical Revival Styles.

Additional Notes
The goal of the planned public private partnership is to modernize the historic Domiciliary Campus for the needs of today’s and future Veterans and their families. The Commonwealth is offering a 99-year lease of the Domiciliary Campus for the partnership’s implementation of a phased redevelopment plan and long-term operational and Veterans services supports.
