From Preservation Action:
This week, after a long and harmful delay, FY2025 Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) grants have finally been released. The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) was posted on grants.gov allowing for State Historic Preservation Offices and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices to apply for their FY25 funding. A huge thank you to the many advocates who reached out to their members of Congress, contacted administration officials, wrote Op-Eds, organized at the state and local level, and much more. Your advocacy made a difference. We would also like to thank the many members of Congress who sent letters, made phone calls, and questioned administration officials at recent hearings on the HPF funding delay. Thank you!
Preservation Action worked closely with our national partners in sending letters to key administration officials, hosted a briefing for congressional staff in May which highlighted the funding delay among other preservation priorities, worked with members of Congress in responding to the delay, and helped engage the preservation community- which sent thousands of messages to their members of Congress. Together grassroots preservation advocates made their voice heard!
While we take a moment to celebrate, we know future funding for the HPF is still under threat. The Trump Administration's proposed budget nearly eliminates funding for the HPF entirely, and the HPF remains unauthorized after being allowed to lapse last September. The House and Senate are currently drafting their FY26 Interior and Environment Appropriations bills. Preservation Action continues to urge to lawmakers to show strong support for the HPF in their funding bills.
Take Action
If you haven't already, please take a few moments to alert your members of Congress that FY25 HPF funding has been released, thank them for their efforts to secure this important funding, and urge them to support robust funding for the HPF in FY26.
Thank you for your continued advocacy and stay tuned for more!
