Cultural Heritage Partners and the DC Preservation League filed suit against President Trump over plans to paint over the historic Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which was built in 1871 as the State, War, and Navy Building and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971.
The suit asks the court to stop President Trump and administration officials from making any changes to the building without going through the standard review process required by the National Historic Preservation Act and National Environmental Policy Act. In the suit, the groups warn that painting the building's polished granite and slate surfaces will trap moisture and deteriorate the structure, causing irreversible damage.
Since the filing, administration officials agreed to delay any plans to paint the exterior of the Eisenhower Building until Dec. 31st. In the interim, the court is expected to rule on the plaintiffs motion to seek a preliminary injunction.
