Preservation Massachusetts is pleased to announce Massachusetts’ Most Endangered Historic Resources List for 2025. This year’s list features 10 properties which were nominated by concerned owners, community members, towns, and local organizations. Our anonymous review committee vets each nomination and votes to select properties that reflect the rich history of Massachusetts and have a demonstrated commitment from their respective communities to mitigate the threat of loss.
The program is an honorary designation and it can serve as a catalyst for action and opportunities. PM works with listed resources as priority projects, drawing upon our staff expertise, technical assistance abilities, and networks to see the listed resources and the people committed to them put on the path toward preservation.
Breathing new life into historic places requires both vision and commitment. Each of this year’s listed properties holds tremendous potential to serve its community through thoughtful preservation and rehabilitation. Across Massachusetts, we’ve seen how creative partnerships can transform even the most challenging buildings, and we look forward to working collaboratively to achieve similar success stories with this year’s selections.
Properties included on this year’s Most Endangered Historic Resources List include:
- William Russell Allen House (1886), Pittsfield
- Percy Browne House (1881), Marion
- Buddy’s Diner (1929), Somerville
- The Campanile (1913), Springfield
- Donald T. Clark House (1947), Lexington
- General John Glover Farmhouse (1750), Swampscott
- Hudson Armory (1910), Hudson
- Smith Baker Center (1884), Lowell
- Ellen Stone Building (1833), Lexington
- Williams Boltwood House (1779), Goshen
Properties on this year’s list still need substantial financial and legal support as well as preservation and planning expertise. The visibility and public awareness that the Most Endangered Historic Resources Program brings to each property increases the chances that these historic resources will be saved.
Throughout the month of November, we will be featuring each of these properties on our website and social media channels. You can read more about them on our website now, with more to come.
