Preservation Action Joins Coalition Letter to Interior on HPF Funding Delay
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -
Contributed By: Preservation Action
Website: https://preservationaction.org/protect-hpf-alert/

From Preservation Action:

Preservation Action recently joined several national preservation partners in sending a coalition letter to Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgumexpressing our deep concerns about the ongoing delay in releasing FY25 funds for the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF). The letter highlights the serious impact the delay is having on historic preservation across the country. The delay has forced State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) to layoff staff in multiple states and retract preservation project funding, impairing the ability of SHPOs to carry out their federally mandated duties and ignoring the government's trust responsibility with Tribes.

The continued delay means National Register nominations, Determinations of Eligibility, federal agency consultation, Section 106 review, Historic Tax Credit project assistance, and more duties carried out SHPOs and THPOs will slow or grind to a halt. This puts historic places at risk and threatens the jobs and economic development the HPF helps support.

In the letter we call on the Department of Interior and Office of Management and Budget to expeditiously release the Congressionally appropriated FY25 funds, by releasing the Notice of Funding Opportunity, followed by the swift approval of applications submitted to draw down such funds. Read the coalition letter and join us in taking action!
