From Preservation Action:
Preservation Action (PA) participated in the Historic Tax Credit Coalition's 2025 Lobby Day earlier this week. PA's Emilie Evans took to the Hill with dozens of other historic tax credit sector professionals and preservation advocates on both the House and Senate sides. Their advocacy focused on enhancing the Historic Tax Credit through inclusion of provisions that would modernize the credit, making more projects eligible, improving access, and boosting the credit for small and rural rehabilitations. On the Senate side, the ask was to please include the provisions in tax legislation currently being drafted by Senators and, on the House side, if provisions come back from the Senate, to please keep them.
Moreover, the ask was to support and co-sponsor the Historic Tax Credit Growth and Opportunity Act (H.R. 2941 / S. 1459) as an independent bill. And of course, PA also advocated for both the immediate release of already appropriated FY25 HPF funds and robust funding for the HPF in FY26. Adequate and timely HPF funding is essential for success of the Historic Tax Credit program.

June will be a critical time for Historic Tax Credit (HTC) advocacy. Much-needed provisions to modernize the HTC were not included in the House version of the tax bill and Senators are looking to wrap up their version of the bill before July 4th.
Reach out to your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor the Historic Tax Credit Growth and Opportunity Act (H.R. 2941, S. 1459) and more importantly, urge them to include HTC-GO provisions in the tax bill. This action is particularly helpful with Republican Senate offices, and especially Republican Senators on the Senate Finance Committee. Senators have received thousands of messages from HTC advocates are taking notice, but we must keep up our efforts!
If you have a personal contact in your Senators' office, contact that person directly. Preservation Action has also made it easy for you to send a letter to your members of Congress. Take action and share this alert with your networks!
