From Preservation Action:
June will be a critical time for Historic Tax Credit (HTC) advocacy. Last week the House passed their budget reconciliation tax package which ultimately did not include the provisions to modernize and strengthen the HTC. This means attention is shifting to the Senate, where the Senate Finance Committee is currently drafting their version of the tax bill. Senators hope to pass their version by July 4th.
Preservation advocates are pushing for several provisions included in the recently introduced Historic Tax Credit Growth and Opportunity Act (H.R. 2941, S. 1459). This bill includes changes to restore loss value to the credit, improve access, make more projects eligible, and boost the credit for smaller and rural rehabilitation projects. These changes are needed more now than ever before.
We Need Your Help!
Reach out to your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor the Historic Tax Credit Growth and Opportunity Act (H.R. 2941, S. 1459) and more importantly, urge them to include HTC-GO provisions in the tax bill. This action is particularly helpful with Republican Senate offices, and especially Republican Senators on the Senate Finance Committee. Senators have received thousands of messages from HTC advocates are taking notice, but we must keep up our efforts!
If you have a personal contact in your Senators' office, contact that person directly. Preservation Action has also made it easy for you to send a letter to your members of Congress. Take action and share this alert with your networks!
Attend HTC Lobby Day on June 11th!
You can also advocate directly by attending the Historic Tax Credit (HTC) Lobby Day on Wednesday, June 11th in Washington, D.C, hosted by our partners at the Historic Tax Credit Coalition. The HTC Coalition will set up meetings, provide educational materials, and host a morning breakfast briefing on June 11th before heading to Capitol Hill between 11am and 12 noon for an afternoon of meetings.
If you are interested in attending, please email Michael Phillips at NTCIC to confirm your attendance and to learn more.
