From Preservation Action:
Earlier this month a group of bipartisan Senators introduced the America the Beautiful Act (S. 1547). This bill reauthorizes and increases the Legacy Restoration Fund, which was created in 2020 with the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act. Led by Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Sen. Angus King (I-ME), this bill would reauthorize the Fund through 2033 and increase funding to $2 billion a year to help address the deferred maintenance backlog at National Parks and on public lands.
Despite the historic investment of the Great American Outdoors Act, many projects have not been addressed and the deferred maintenance backlog at the National Park Service still stands at over $23 billion, including many historic resources.
Urge your Senators to cosponsor and support this important bill today! Our partners at the National Trust for Historic Preservation have made it easy for you. Take action today!
