Opportunity
The Beverly Heritage Center is seeking a multi-talented
individual to grow with our organization and to help us grow. This Community
Outreach Manager position will assist with outreach, communications, and
fundraising, while helping operate the Beverly Heritage Center Museum and events
and grow capacity for our non-profit organizations. The position is half-time,
on site in Beverly.
Background
The Beverly Heritage Center is a full-service museum and
visitor center facility in Beverly, WV, operated through a partnership between
Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation and Historic Beverly Preservation. One
full-time Executive Director is responsible for operations for the Museum and
partner organizations. This half-time Outreach Manager position will support
the Executive Director with emphasis on community outreach.
Position Duties
Duties specific to this position will include:
Primary responsibility for marketing, promotion, and communications. This is likely to include conducting or overseeing social media, newsletters and mailings, press releases, website updates, design of promotional materials, and managing paid advertising. Develop marketing plan, and work closely with team members on implementation.
Assist with outreach to increase connection with the community and build organizational support. This includes cultivation of partners, donors, and sponsors, and volunteer recruitment.
Provide major support (with board and staff assistance) for fundraising, including sponsorship and donor asks, organizing fundraising campaigns and mailing, cultivating and tracking donors and potential donors, etc. with goal to improve diversification of income, and increase non-governmental revenue by 10% per year
Lead oversight of Beverly ON TRAC, including engaging with local Beverly community, supporting promotion and design committees and building connections with and encouraging local businesses.
Provide planning lead and support for some of the events, with focus on community (ie non-history focused) events and fundraising events.
Assist with grant-writing, project implementation, and reporting
Help manage revenue generating activities of the organizations, including gift shop, rental venues, and tenant relations for the organizations.
Duties assisting as part of the BHC team (alongside
Executive Director, AmeriCorps members, and volunteers) will include:
Support operations of the Beverly Heritage Center and the partner organizations, including assisting with visitor services, events, programs, and projects.
This position will include a shared responsibility for BHC Visitor Services, with “front desk” responsibility of about ¼ of working time, including occasional weekend days. Other duties can be worked on during Visitor Services days, between visitors. May be staff person available to provide visitor services backup at other times, and will assist with major events.
Assist as a member of the team with ongoing facilities care, including cleanliness and routine maintenance tasks.
Terms and Conditions
The Manager will work onsite at the BHC and other organization properties, except for times that specific duties, meetings, or outside circumstances require work to be elsewhere. While there is some flexibility to plan schedule to meet needs of candidate and the Center, this is NOT a remote work position. Some weekend days will be expected.
This position will be half time, 20 hours per week.
Salaried position based on $16 hour, paid every two weeks.
No benefits are included, except workers comp. Some professional development or training opportunities may be supported.
Start date likely to be by July 1, or as negotiated.
This is a grant funded position for one-year. If, with assistance of Outreach Manager, the organizations are successful in increasing revenue, the goal is to continue this as an ongoing position, and potentially to increase hours in the future.
The Outreach Manager will work under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director, with oversight and support from the BHC Executive Committee.
Qualifications
Expected –
Degree, comparable training, and/or substantial experience related to the duties of the position, most likely with background in marketing, communications, tourism, or fund development.
Strong communication skills including in person, public speaking, and written communications. Should have digital and technology competency.
Responsible, self-directed, organized, competent, attention to detail
Work well with diverse people, including visitors and co-workers, and comfortable taking direction and providing guidance when appropriate.
Helpful --
History or culture background, or at least interest in learning more.
Graphic design or media experience is a plus.
Connections within the Randoph County community are helpful. If new to the community, then we would expect active and enthusiastic efforts to meet people and build relationships.
