We are pleased to share an exciting opportunity at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP). We are currently seeking a highly qualified Head of Conservation to lead our conservation and restoration department.
This position is based in São Paulo, Brazil, and requires availability to relocate. The selected professional will play a key role in safeguarding MASP’s collection, leading preventive conservation strategies, restoration projects, partnerships with national and international institutions, and managing a dedicated team of conservators.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and coordinating preventive conservation and restoration activities.
Leading collection diagnostics, risk management, and emergency planning.
Establishing national and international partnerships for conservation projects.
Overseeing artworks in transit (couriering) and supporting institutional loans.
Developing and revising conservation and restoration policies, plans, and procedures.
Managing and mentoring the conservation team.
Requirements:
Postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in Conservation and Restoration of cultural heritage, with specialization in European painting.
Proven experience in conservation and restoration, preferably in museums, including significant research and publications.
Strong background in preventive conservation, restoration techniques, and scientific analysis.
Team and process management experience.
Fluency in English; intermediate Portuguese (other languages desirable).
