From Preservation Action:
This week the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced they are reinstating all grants that were previously terminated. This announcement follows a court ruling in late November that found that the Trump administration's previous attempts to suppress IMLS project funding were unlawful. This means that museums and libraries across the country will finally have access to funding that had been in stuck in limbo for months.
The IMLS is a relatively small independent agency that awards grants and research funding, appropriated by Congress, to museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions. An Executive Order issued in March aimed to dismantle the IMLS, it placed nearly the entire staff of approximately 70 employees on administrative leave and cancelled and rescinded grant funding.
The American Library Association celebrated the announcement, but waned that that the fight was not over. The Trump administration could appeal the decision or Congress could choose not to fund IMLS in future years. Check out the ALA press release to learn more.
