ACHP Task Force on Sustainability and Historic Preservation Overview
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com - Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Sustainability Task Force
Contributed By: Advisory Council on Historic Preservation
Website: http://www.achp.gov/TaskForceSustainabilityHistPresrv.html

The chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) has appointed a Task Force on Sustainability and Historic Preservation. This action reflects the priority placed on sustainability by the Administration and follows upon President Obama's issuance in October 2009 of Executive Order 13514, "Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance" (Sustainability Executive Order). It also is a logical outgrowth of the ACHP's involvement in ongoing efforts of the historic preservation community to address issues of sustainability.

The task force is addressing two key areas of concern–energy efficiency and community livability–and will play multiple roles in promoting the full integration of historic preservation into the federal government's policies and programs addressing sustainability. It will advocate directly with ACHP member agencies to promote key issues and outcomes and also serve as a facilitator to assist non-federal parties in coordinating with federal agencies. The task force also will develop guidance, as well as serve as a clearinghouse for information on the federal government and sustainable preservation. The task force held its first meeting in April 2010.

For additional information on the ACHP Sustainability Task Force, contact Druscilla Null, Office of Preservation Initiatives, ACHP, at dnull@achp.gov.
