The 2008 Legislative Session convened on Monday, January 14. The session will last 60 days and adjourn sine die on Thursday, March 13.

Senate Bill 6144 Maritime Heritage Area - Assessing the feasibility of a Pacific Northwest maritime national heritage area. Introduced by Sen. Ken Jacobsen on March 1, 2007, to require the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation Conduct a preliminary assessment to determine the feasibility of seeking congressional designation for a Pacific Northwest maritime national heritage area in western Washington. The department must submit its findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Legislature 2 years after funding is provided to carry out the assessment. Referred to the Senate Natural Resources, Ocean and Recreation Committee on March 1, 2007. Jan. 14, 2008 by resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status. Jan. 16 scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Ocean and Recreation at 8:00 a.m. (subject to change).

House Bill 2589 Historic Maritime Vessels - Establishing a maritime historic vessel restoration and preservation program. Introduced by Rep. Patricia Lantz on January 14, 2008, to create the maritime historic vessel restoration and preservation program to be funded by the maritime historic vessel restoration and preservation account. The Washington State Historical Society is to be the administrator for the restoration and preservation program. One dollar from every vessel registration goes to the restoration fund. Referred to the House State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee on January 14, 2008.
