The Georgia Alliance of Preservation Commissions (GAPC), in partnership with the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (HPD), is pleased to announce that we will be awarding two scholarships to GAPC members to attend the Georgia Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) Training scheduled for April 10-11, 2015 in Dahlonega, Georgia. Awards of these scholarships will be given on a competitive basis to either GAPC HPC members or GAPC HPC Staff.

We anticipate making two scholarships available for the amount of $125.00 to cover the full cost of registration. The GAPC HPC Member or Staff, or their city government, must cover all other costs associated with their attendance at the HPC Training.

Where and when will the HPC Training be held?

The 2015 HPC Training will take place April 10th and 11th in Dahlonega, Georgia at the Holly Theatre and the Smith House. More information can be found at http://www.georgiashpo.org/conferences.

What does the HPC Training offer you?

The training will bring together historic preservation commission members, preservation professionals, non-profits, city and county administrators, architects, and students from across Georgia. The training will be two days of educational presentations, social events, and networking. Full credit for training will be given to Certified Local Government historic preservation commission members and staff who attend.

Who can apply for this scholarship opportunity?

Individuals who serve on or staff an HPC that has a current GAPC membership are eligible to apply for the scholarship. An individual GAPC membership is also acceptable. Applicants may join GAPC simultaneous of applying for the scholarship if they are not already a member. For more information about joining GAPC, please
visit www.georgaiahpcs.org or contact Ms. Marcy Breffle at marcy.breffle@dnr.state.ga.us

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Applications are available on the GAPC website at www.georgiahpcs.org and a link to the application is available on the HPD website at http://www.georgiashpo.org/conferences. All eligible applications must be postmarked by Wednesday, Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

What are the expected costs?

Hotel costs for the conference range from $75.00 to $150.00 and hotel accommodations are available throughout Dahlonega. Information may be found at http://www.georgiashpo.org/conferences. Attendees will also need to factor in the cost of their individual mileage and food during the training.

Once I apply, how long will it be before I learn whether I will receive a scholarship?

As noted above, these scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will go through committee review like all HPC/HPF grants. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, but all applications must be submitted by February 25, 2015. We intend to notify all scholarship recipients by March 4, 2015.

Completed applications should be sent by email to Ms. Marcy Breffle at marcy.breffle@dnr.state.ga.us
