Carbon County Historical Society and Museum Hires New Executive Director
The board of directors of Carbon County Historical Society and Museum announces the hiring of a new Executive Director, Sarah Russell, who began working for the organization on April first.

"The board and I are extremely pleased to announce the hiring of our new executive director. After an extensive search and review of a number of highly qualified candidates, we found an individual that possesses the enthusiasm and expertise that will take the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum to a new level," said Richard Deville, President of the Carbon County Historical Society. "We have long been excited about the potential that exists for the building and the organization. We are anxious for the community to meet Sarah and share in our vision." Russell has a seasoned background in community outreach, media, marketing, business development, event planning and non-for-profit management. She is a recent Master of Social Science candidate at University of Colorado Denver and brings an enthusiasm to lead the Society and Museum in the next phase of growth.

Russell relocated to Red Lodge from Denver Colorado in search of the Montana lifestyle this year. She has lived all over the United States and Central America, but has always called her family's farm in Northern Idaho home. Her professional life has been as varied as the places she's lived. Originally a graduate of film school, Russell worked her way up to become a Field Producer for a world expedition documentary series and was part of a National Geographic Adventurers of the Year team. She worked for a not-for-profit cultural arts organization which produced an internationally-acclaimed film festival, managed a concert venue and curated cultural arts exhibitions. Russell founded a chain of independent yoga and fitness studios which she sold in 2014 to go on to develop an international yoga event. Russell has most recently been a consultant for startup businesses and not-for-profit organizations, still teaching yoga and fitness on the side.

"My academic and professional career has really taken me on a path to step into what I really love. I thoroughly enjoy growing businesses and seeing the impact of that growth both in the community and for the organization so this position was a thrilling find," said Russell. "I look forward to being engaged in our community and taking the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum to the next level. So much is changing in our sector and ironically, we need to look to the future of technology in preserving our past and I'll be doing just that."

Carbon County Historical Society and Museum is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with a mission to preserve and communicate the history of the Carbon County area. You can join us on the fourth Wednesday of each month for our exciting and informative lecture series. We are hiring for additional staffing needs for our summer season so please feel free to reach out.
