In celebration of National Historic Preservation Month, as well as Historic Preservation and Archaeology Months in Georgia, the Historic Preservation Division is hosting an online photo contest throughout May.
“Georgia Roadside Heritage” is the theme for the 8th annual Georgia Historic Preservation Division Photo Contest, which invites the public to submit photographs from around the state that highlight historic resources established to cater predominantly to automobile travelers – like roadside restaurants, motels, automobile showrooms, recreation and amusement facilities, stores, signage, drive-in theaters, gas stations and more.
Participants in the contest must submit photos – no more than two per person – that depict places more than 50 years old. Those submitting photos are asked to do so via email to email@example.com by May 30, 2017.
Photos must be:
Along with the photograph, participants must provide the following information:
- 1200x800 pixels or larger.
- Your original work.
Photo entries will be posted to the Georgia Historic Preservation Division Facebook page as they are received, and also shared on the HPD Twitter, Instagram, and Flickr accounts.
- Photographer and hometown
- Photo location and description of the site depicted
Contest photos will be judged by a panel of HPD staff based on creativity, choice of subject matter, and composition, with a top entry receiving the following prizes:
Contest winners will be announced on the HPD website and social media pages.
- An annual membership to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation
- A hard-copy book (TBD) about Historic Roadside resources/architecture.
By participating in the contest, you grant the Georgia Department of Natural Resources permission to use your photos on DNR websites, social media outlets, videos and publications.
