Goliad wins a Platinum REMI Award at WorldFest Houston
Houston, Texas – May 2, 2017 –

The Heritage Society (THS) received a Platinum REMI Award in Documentary at the awards gala for WorldFest Houston on Saturday night. The winning film was Goliad, part of the Birth of Texas Series of feature length films produced by THS. It was the 5th Birth of Texas film to win a REMI Award, and the 3rd to take home the platinum level top prize. There are two more installments of the eight-part Birth of Texas Series yet to be released. Next up is San Jacinto which will be out early this summer.  Some of the films have run multiple times on KUHT, Houston’s Channel 8 and other PBS affiliates around Texas. The films, including Goliad, are available for purchase on DVD through The Heritage Society. More information is available at the THS website and at www.birthoftexas.org.

Other award winning films in the series include San Antonio and the Alamo, Washington-on-the-Brazos: The Politics of Revolution, San Felipe and American Settlement, Spanish Texas, and Houston: A Nation’s Capitol. The Heritage Society Museum is located at 1100 Bagby Street, Sam Houston Park. Founded in 1954, Founded in 1954, The Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to tell the stories of the diverse history of Houston and Texas through collections, exhibits, educational programs, film, video, and other content. The museum and historic structures are open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is an admission charge for the historic structure tours with special rates for seniors, students and children.
