Missouri Department of Natural Resources seeking a Cultural Resource Preservationist I/II (Jefferson City, MO)
Cultural Resource Preservationist I/II The State Historic Preservation Office is a group of committed professionals that fulfill the activities mandated by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. We are seeking an outgoing individual who is dedicated to historic preservation, enjoys working independently in a collaborative team environment, and is capable of simultaneously managing projects that vary in scope, urgency, and public profile, especially those serving Certified Local Governments. 

Job Duties: 
• Support the work of Certified Local Governments (CLGs) through grants, training, individual requests for assistance, and periodic program audits 
• Ensure the CLG program meets all mandated National Park Service (NPS) requirements 
• Receive, review, and make recommendations on requests from local governments for CLG status. Encourage inactive CLGs to return to active status 
• Provide additional training and support to individual CLGs, as requested 
• Respond to citizens and local government requests for general information 
• Assist in the identification, planning, organization, and promotion of annual training for CLGs, including the yearly Certified Local Government Forum 
• Help manage the State Historic Preservation Office’s website content with department and division public relations/communication personnel 
• Contribute to the development of curriculum, public programs, and exhibits used to teach preservation at all levels 
• Assist with administrative management of properties with preservation covenants and easements including those associated with the Preservation Revolving Fund
• Assist in the development of a plan to celebrate Preservation Month and Archaeology Month each year 
• Assist the SHPO Preservation Planner/Grant Manager with HPF sub-grant projects by providing subject matter/technical expertise, advising CLGs and others as they prepare their grant proposals, reviewing/scoring grant applications, and inspecting grant-funded activities to ensure conformance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, final review, and approval of grant funded activities 
• Assist the Preservation Planner/Grant Manager with the statewide planning process and updating the comprehensive statewide preservation plan 
• Assist with the review and consultation on projects undergoing Section 106 review for the National Historic Preservation Act 
• Assist with the review of Historic Tax Credit applications and rehabilitation projects 
• Assist with National Register eligibility assessments and preparing National Register nominations 

Applicants should possess the following qualities: 
• Intermediate knowledge of the objectives and procedures of the National Historic Preservation Act.
• Intermediate knowledge of federal legislation, regulations, and requirements pertaining to the state's historic preservation activities 
• Intermediate knowledge of Missouri’s history, architecture, and/or archaeology 
• Intermediate knowledge of historic preservation principles and practices 
• Intermediate knowledge of research sources and methodology 
• Introductory knowledge of the principles of planning and zoning, community development, and real estate related to historic properties 
• Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations 
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the general public and local, state and federal officials 
• Ability to plan, organize, and carry out assignments effectively 
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to requests for information
