An Equal Opportunity Employer

SALARY:  $46,987.00 - $80,401.00 Annually

CLOSING DATE: 01/02/19 11:59 PM

DESCRIPTION:

The Prince George's County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Principal Planning Technician to join our planning team. This individual will be responsible for permit review, planning assistance work, and managing a specialized portion of the department's planning and regulatory programs. Work involves:
reviewing permits and planning applications; identifying problems and changes
needed for compliance; working with the general public, developers, and professionals to identify methods for compliance; collecting, organizing, and
analyzing planning-related data (database management); preparing graphics for reports and presentations; writing reports; and developing and implementing procedures to improve program performance.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT DUTIES:

Work requires knowledge of zoning and subdivision codes, county geography, organization, and functions. A Principal Planning Technician plans, organizes, and prioritizes their own work in the context of established standards. Positions in this class are normally associated with a specialized area of planning (e.g., parks,
transportation, trails, historic preservation, environment, research, regulatory planning). This position also provides administrative and logistical support to the County's Historic Preservation Commission and its scheduled public meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

At the Principal Planning Technician level, the ideal candidate for this position must have highly organized work habits, be detail-oriented and accurate, and have experience with record keeping, database management, and application processing
in a regulatory environment. A successful candidate must also have substantial analytical skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. An interest in or familiarity with historic preservation and/or local history would be helpful.

Preferred Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduation from high school or GED; and

2. Four years of directly related work experience (an associate of arts degree in
a relevant discipline can be substituted for two years of work experience); or

3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

This position's work program provides support to the Prince George's County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), an appointed board that meets one evening each month, and also provides technical support to the Prince George's County Planning Department and the Prince George's County Planning Board.

The Prince George's County Planning Department is currently located in historic Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Free onsite parking is available for employees. In the foreseeable future, the

Department will be moving to a newly renovated, state-of-the-art building in Largo, Maryland, conveniently located near Metro and 1-495.

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $46,987 to $80,401 per annum at the Principal Planning Technician level with an excellent benefits package. The Commission is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from minorities, females, and persons with disabilities.
