Preservation Services Manager, Southern New England, Historic New England (Haverhill, MA)

The preservation services team at Historic New England currently has an opening for a Preservation Services Manager, Southern New England, to manage the organization’s preservation easements in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and parts of Massachusetts. This person serves as the institutional expert on assigned properties enrolled within Historic New England’s easement program, including their historic significance, maintenance chronology, and easement regulation. The Preservation Services Manager will routinely perform conditions assessments of historic properties, make recommendations about appropriate maintenance and treatment options, and engage with owners and contractors regarding proposals to make alterations to protected properties.

As part of the preservation services team, this position helps the team achieve the strategic goals of the easement program by documenting properties for inclusion in the easement program, responding to public inquiries, and making presentations about preservation easements. The Preservation Services Manager fosters positive relationships with external preservation partners and serves as local resource for preservation issues within the southern region of New England.

This position pays in the mid $40,000s, dependent upon experience. Historic New England offers generous and comprehensive vacation, holiday, and health and wellness benefit packages.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in historic preservation required, or a closely related field with at least one year of job-related experience. Master’s degree in historic preservation or a closely related field and two years of experience is preferred. Fully competent computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, internet research, and email is required. Basic digital photography skills are required. This position requires regular travel to locations throughout New England. A valid driver’s license, a means of transportation, and ability to drive are requirements of the position.

  • Reviewing construction project proposals for historic properties
  • Researching and documenting historic properties
  • Communicating preservation concepts to a public audience

Successful applicants will be creative, detail-oriented, and excited to work with the team to manage complex and sensitive projects. GIS and CAD experience is preferred.
