Learn about restoration strategies and practices through site visits to historic timber frames, lectures and hands-on demonstrations. This course will focus on traditional joinery repairs that will last for hundreds of years. Transforming Historic Buildings for Efficiency and Resiliency
September 28-29, 2019

In this workshop, through lectures, site visits and hands-on demonstrations, we will look at strategies for improving energy efficiency in older and historic buildings including: investigating and documenting existing conditions; repairing historic window sash; insulation, weather-strip and air-sealing techniques; integrating alternative energy solutions without affecting historic character and materials; designing appropriate solutions for fire protection, floodproofing and seismic retrofits.Learn more and register: yestermorrow.org/historicbuildings

In addition to these two new courses, the school is also hosting a Masonry Restoration course in Italy.

Italy Design/Build: Masonry Restoration
July 16-31, 2019

Spend two weeks in the Italian Alps helping restore 500 year-old vernacular stone buildings and learning design skills necessary for this restoration and for any restoration you may subsequently tackle on your own. No prior skills are required to take the course, which is taught in English, and an ability to engage in modest hiking is desirable. The masonry work is tailored to each individual’s physical ability. This course is a combination of masonry construction, historic preservation, adaptive re-use, natural building techniques and the application of the design/build philosophy. You will enjoy field trips, good food, and spectacular accommodations at Villa Raghezzi.
