Remote Internship: Historic Preservationn/Architectural History
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com - internship; tourism
Contributed By: Allison Casazza
Email The Author: allison@histoury.org
Website: http://www.histoury.org

The position is research based, mainly identifying historic resources in a given community and developing architectural and historical descriptions for use in guided tours using a variety of source documents. The intern will gain exposure to the heritage tourism industry and experience with historical research and interpretation.

Projects involve conducting research to ascertain important information about the buildings, including year of construction, modifications, and the significance of the architect, residents, and events associated with the building. These skills are used regularly in many disciplines of historic preservation and history. The intern will also become familiarized with the cultural landscape of regions throughout the northeast, particularly community development and regional architectural movements. The intern will also have the opportunity to write about the architectural and historical significance of buildings for the tour scripts.

Other assignments include developing tour itinerary, taking into account many variables that go into planning successful educational tours; documenting historical images; and developing mixed media (e.g. booklets and slideshow videos) to be used during tours.

Candidates must have an academic background in historic preservation; architectural history; or closely related field, accompanied by a resume or statement of interest that demonstrates how your background and interests align with this position. Only architecture majors with a strong interest in historic architecture will be considered as qualified candidates.

The intern will be required to commit a minimum of ten hours per week for the spring semester. This is an unpaid internship, however, we can work to accommodate academic credit if necessary.
