Architectural Conservation Internship, York Culture & Heritage Museums (York County, SC)
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -

Website: http://chmuseums.org/brattonsville/

The Culture & Heritage Museums of York County, South Carolina seeks qualified candidates for the 2020 summer field season at Historic Brattonsville, a National Register Historic District. An hourly wage and on-site housing will be offered to the selected candidate.  The participant should begin their eight-week internship on Monday, June 1, 2020.

Historic Brattonsville’s Preservation Program preserves and maintains over forty structures on the eight hundred-acre living history museum located in York County. The intern will learn about the architectural history, building technology, and preservation issues of the Carolina Piedmont through the structures at Historic Brattonsville. The intern will assist the Preservation/Restoration Specialist and Property/Farm Manager in performing a variety of tasks relating to the preservation and maintenance of our nineteenth century buildings, as well as several late-twentieth century reconstructed structures. Work may include:

• Create an inventory of architectural fragments from the recent restoration of the 1843 Brick House
• Documentation of log and wood frame structures in the form of photography, measured drawings, and condition assessment
• Repair and painting of woodwork on reproduction slave outbuildings (1990s). Internship will likely include building new shutters for these structures.
• Repair and stabilization of agricultural log structures

This is an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience in the field of historic preservation for a student with interest in building conservation. It is required that the participant have a vehicle for personal use during their residency due to the rural location of the site. It is essential that the participant be able to work outdoors and be comfortable operating power tools. Current graduate students and/or recent graduates in historic preservation are encouraged to apply.

Please email cover letter and
resume by 11:00 AM EST by Monday, March 23, 2020 to:
