In this time of a global pandemic and efforts to reform systemic racial injustice, the importance of and need for community and connection has never been more clear.
It is Historic Seattle's mission to save meaningful places that foster lively communities. Each year, we are pleased to recognize the people and projects that uphold the spirit of that mission with our annual Preservation Awards.
This year's award recipients would have been honored at Historic Seattle's annual Preservation Celebration Benefit, scheduled for September 23 at Washington Hall. This benefit, our only annual fundraising event, has been canceled due to COVID-19. Each recipient will instead be featured on our blog and social media throughout September.
The 2020 Preservation Award recipients are: Building 9 at Magnuson Park | Best Preservation Project Award; Lincoln High School | Beth Chave Best Rehabilitation Award; Louisa Hotel | Community Investment Award; South Park Yacht Club | Preserving Neighborhood Character Award; Town Hall | Exemplary Stewardship Award; Dan Say | Preservation Champion Award; and Wa Na Wari | Community Advocacy Award. Wa Na Wari also receives a $3,000 Community Advocacy prize in addition to the award, in support of their mission to create space for Black ownership, possibility, and belonging through art, historic preservation, and connection. Congratulations to each recipient!
In lieu of purchasing a ticket or table for this year's event, we ask you to consider making a donation in support of our mission . While we can't give you a night of food, fun, and festivities this year, we can promise you that your dollars will have the most impact this year - 100% of your contribution will go directly to our mission, including virtual public programming this fall and funding Wa Na Wari's Community Advocacy prize.
We look forward to a time when it is safe to gather again. Until then, I hope you find inspiration in the stories of the projects and people we honor this year, starting tomorrow with the Louisa Hotel. Don't forget to follow along on our blog and social media.
