REAL PLACES CONFERENCE GOES VIRTUAL IN 2021
Texas conference offers value for historic preservationists and heritage travel professionals across the U.S.
AUSTIN, Texas— Registration is open for Real Places 2021, the Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) historic preservation and heritage tourism conference, which unites people who are passionate about finding, saving, and leveraging the real places and real stories of their communities—wherever they may be.
Normally held in person in Austin, the 2021 Real Places Conference will take place online February 3–5, with the same expertise and networking the event has provided for years—and no travel or lodging required.
Presented by Phoenix I Restoration and Construction and hosted by the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission, the conference features 44 speakers and 28 sessions on topics such as downtown revitalization, historic tax credits, museum and historic site administration, digital outreach strategies, nonprofit operations, interpretation, and technical preservation issues. Session recordings will be available to registrants following the conference.
Keynote speakers are Robert Stanton of Virginia, former director of the National Park Service; Linda Norris of New York, Senior Specialist, Methodology and Practice, at the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience; and Ron Anthony of Colorado, president and wood scientist with Anthony & Associates Inc.
The move online enables participation for people across the country involved in historic preservation, heritage tourism, historic sites, museums, and downtown
revitalization. The conference connects attendees with industry-leading experts
from across Texas and the U.S. to learn practical, actionable solutions they can apply in their communities.
Regular registration is $125, more than $300 off the usual pricing for the in-person
conference. Organizations with multiple attendees can save 25 percent on additional registrations purchased at the same time. Thanks to the support of the Real Places Student Scholarship Sponsors, price breaks are available for full-time students with valid university IDs.
