Description
History Nebraska is seeking an organized and self-motivated preservationist to serve as the agency's Review and Compliance Coordinator. As a member of the Historic Preservation team, this position is accountable for consulting with federal agencies and their designees, conducting architectural reviews, and analyzing effects on historic properties. The comments provided by this position serve as the official comments of the State Historic Preservation Office. History Nebraska is a statewide educational institution that connects people to the past through our library and research center, conservation facility, interpretive sites, and the state archeology and historic preservation offices. Examples of Work
• Independently review and provide technical comments to federal and state agencies or their designees within legally prescribed time limits.
• Consult, manage and monitor complex multi-year project reviews under various environmental laws, including the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
• Negotiate with and provide technical assistance to federal and state agencies on various types of agreement documents.
• Monitor, track, review and approve mitigation measures stipulated in executed agreement documents.
• Consult with Native American Tribes in regards to agreement documents and historic preservation laws.
• Attend and participate in project meetings, including multi-agency meetings, as well as making site visits to project areas to consult with agencies and the public.
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in history, archeology, architectural history or closely related field; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above noted fields plus one of the following: a) two years' experience in research, writing or teaching in a related field or b) substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge as determined applicable based on Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards (36 CFR Part 61, Appendix A).
OTHER: Valid driver's license or able to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to present and train federal and state agency staff, consulting parties, and the public regarding the compliance process.
• Ability to synthesize a large amount of technical data regarding projects, surveys within their areas of potential effect (APEs) and anticipate potential effects.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Knowledgeable and/or conversant about specific, complex program requirements, regulations, architectural drawings, construction, and building codes.
• Communicate effectively with both groups and/or individuals, including strong writing skills.
• Travel will be required on a periodic basis.
• Will be required to possess a valid driver's license.
