Director of Communications, Preservation Maryland (Baltimore, MD)

Preservation Maryland seeks applicants for its Director of Communications position. This is a full-time, benefitted position based in Baltimore, Maryland, currently working remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions. The salary, commensurate with experience, is $60,000 to $70,000. Applications will be reviewed as they are received with a preferred start day in May 2021.

This is a full-time position for an experienced communications professional who will manage the full-breadth of Preservation Maryland’s communications needs across its diverse brands and programs and across media (i.e. web, print, social). The organization’s work has international, national, and regional audiences. Demonstrated practical experience in marketing, public relations, project management, and digital analytics are a plus.

The Director of Communications works internally with all departments of the organization to support and enhance their work. This position reports to the Vice President and currently supervises one staff member. Externally, this position prioritizes, manages, and/or creates the organization’s public-facing materials, including, newsletters, emails, podcasts, reports, blogs, images, and other assets.

Specific responsibilities and qualifications of the position include:
  • Elevating the organization’s major brand identities and mission-driven programs across all media and audiences
  • Communicating the organization’s work with the press, legislators, partners, and the general public through web, print, broadcast, podcast, social, and other media
  • Creation of compelling original written content
  • Supporting the organization’s leadership and departments with communications and marketing needs, with a significant emphasis on fundraising partnerships, legislative advocacy, and multi-media projects
  • Selecting and managing consultants (designers, printers, mail house, web designers, digital marketers) to execute major communication products
  • Additionally, strong writing skills a must; experience with any of the following a major plus: public relations, content marketing, data analytics, public history, historic preservation.
