The Gordon House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is seeking a dynamic, organized, preservation-minded person to become our part-time Museum Assistant / Events Coordinator.

Approximately 6,000 visitors from across the country and the globe normally visit the Gordon House each year. The house museum not only offers tours but is available to rent for a variety of occasions and has been the site of weddings, receptions, dinner parties, celebrations of life, fundraisers and concerts. One of the
primary goals in filling this position is to hire a skilled Gordon House Museum
Assistant / Event Coordinator who will become a vital member of a small but
devoted and passionate team of staff and volunteers. Our new team member will
be a champion of the organization’s mission by being dedicated to the education
of the public about Wrights architectural principles.

Position Title:  Museum Assistant / Events Coordinator
Hours: Saturday-Monday, approximately 20 hr/week with additional hours for events as needed (some flexibility required)
Wages: $14.00/hr 
Position open until filled, start date to be arranged
*Gordon House staff and Board of Directors are constantly monitoring changing
Oregon health guidelines, and the duration of employment may be subject to
change.

Reports to: Gordon House General Director and Gordon House Conservancy Board of Directors 
Supervision exercised: Volunteers and guests on the weekends, and personnel working with events as directed by the Gordon House General Director

General Statement of Duties

Museum Assistant:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage the daily operation of the organization on the weekends such as opening and closing the museum
  • Greet guests, collect admission tickets, and encourage tours and shop sales
  • Provide educational and factual information to guests regarding the history of the Gordon House through on-site guided tours
  • Assist Gordon House managers with operations, clerical, and cashiering responsibilities 
  • Perform general upkeep and cleanliness of both interior and exterior of the facility and grounds
  • Attend staff meetings on Mondays and complete assigned Museum Assistant duties guided by the General Director
  • Attend 2 annual Gordon House Conservancy Board meetings held onsite
Events Coordinator:
To be conducted, as needed, potentially outside of Museum Assistant regularly scheduled hours
  • Communicate with potential renters
  • Respond to event email and phone inquiries
  • Work closely with GD, Bookkeeper, and GHC Board Members
  • Negotiate rental agreements for all events
  • Facilitate events to act as GH Representative
  • Work with Night with Wright members for overnight stays

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Proficiency with English language, spoken and written
  • Pleasant and courteous demeanor
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Gordon House guests, co-workers, and volunteers 
  • Ability to work closely with a team as well as independently on projects
  • Ability to be punctual and flexible with time
  • Lift 20-30 lbs infrequently
  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and pos systems with the ability to learn new programs that support the organization as needed
  • Prior customer service
  • Cash handling experience
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check
Skills and Qualifications preferred:
  • Current student or graduate possessing at least a high school diploma or GED
  • Nonprofit experience
  • Experience coordinating or hosting events
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interest in Frank Lloyd Wright, architecture, art, math, and other related principles
  • Ability to speak to large and small groups 
  • Bilingual 
  • Ability to infrequently climb ladders
