Project Reviews Manager - Architecture, Ohio History Connection (Columbus, OH)
The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the State Historic Preservation Office, the official State Archives, Local History Office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.

We are currently seeking a self-disciplined, highly organized Project Reviews Manager (Architecture) in our State Historic Preservation Office to review state and local projects to assess the potential effects to historic properties, pursuant to Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and Ohio Revised Code 149.53; advise and educate state/federal agency staff and others about the Section 106 review process, and maintain computer and paper records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Determine eligibility of properties for listing in the National Register of Historic Places; provide comment and recommendations for surveying and identifying historic properties.
Review architectural drawings, specifications, maps, and other technical documentation; assess effects of projects to historic properties.
Synthesize review results and clearly communicate outcomes in writing, meetings and other communication media.
Make site visits to evaluate effects of proposed project on historic properties.
Negotiate agreements to avoid or mitigate adverse effects to historic properties.
Review and comment on federal and state regulations.
Review state projects; assess impacts to historic properties.
Create and provide education and assistance to federal, state, and local agencies and individuals and organizations, including workshops and conference sessions.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Must meet the professional qualifications standards in 36 CFR 61, Appendix A: a graduate degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or closely-related field; or bachelor degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or closely-related field and two years of work experience in relevant discipline.

Two additional years of work experience in relevant discipline preferred.

Familiarity with Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation, and other federal historic preservation laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Familiarity with applying National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of preservation constituents in both public and private sectors.
Basic mathematical skills and ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
Extensive computer application knowledge.
Ability to implement, plan, and critically evaluate research.
Ability to review, understand, and interpret a variety of technical data, such as architectural and engineering drawings and specifications, primary and secondary research sources, maps and data.
Ability to use Geographic Information System software.
