Yearly pay increases according to gains in skill level
As a historic masonry preservation apprentice you will gain hands-on experience working on brick/stone/plaster historic restoration projects utilizing compatible materials: traditional lime putty, pozzolana and aggregates.
You will learn stone cutting with traditional hand tools and building with stone and brick.
Conventional masonry and other work is to be expected occasionally.
A strong preservation ethic, patience, and the desire to perform careful, conscientious and lasting repairs to historic structures for privates, historic societies/organizations and museums. Prior hands-on preservation experience is preferred but not necessary.
Must be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively including but not limited to various drills, circular saw, table saw, miter saw, angle grinder, reciprocating saw, and bench grinders.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (maximum 80 lbs.).
- Ability to bend, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, stand and/or reach overhead for long periods of time.
- Employee must be able to perform physically strenuous work, including heavy lifting, outdoors throughout the summer in all weather conditions and able to work on scaffolding and roofs.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
