DIRECTOR: HISTORICAL ARCHITECT

Directors are the core team members and project leaders for New History. They act as the internal project manager for their projects and bring their advanced problem-solving skills and expertise to the entire team.
Directors actively engage with clients, manage all project communication, develop and execute strategic project solutions, and participate in business development.
A Historical Architect is expected to bring the following expertise:
  • Historical Architecture: Thorough knowledge of historic materials and features, extensive experience with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (“the Standards”), and design and construction administration experience.
  • Design Services: Ability to collaborate with project teams to develop design solutions to meet project requirements and historic preservation approvals.
  • Historic Tax Credit Applications: Advising on and completing applications for state and federal historic tax credits.
  • Building Assessments: Historic materials surveys and condition assessments, documentation of existing conditions, and development of prioritized recommendations for repair.
  • Construction Services: Review of construction for compliance with historic preservation approvals; review of field conditions and development of recommendations for repair.
  • Project Management: Client service, project communication, and execution of project strategies, including active collaboration with team members, clients, reviewing agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Business Development: Active participation in client relationships and business development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in architecture, historic preservation, or related field with 5+ years of experience
  • Professional licensure to practice architecture, strongly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and capacity to travel
  • Desire to be part of a small, highly competent, self-managed team in a mix of remote, in-person, and on-site work environments
  • Strong relationship and client management skills, and excellent written and verbal communication
  • Passion for historic building redevelopment
