Architectural Historian Position in Nashville, Richard Grubb and Associates, Inc. (Nashville, TN)
Architectural Historian – Full Time/Permanent

Richard Grubb and Associates, Inc. (RGA) has an immediate opening for an Architectural Historian at our new Tennessee Branch Office located in Nashville. Applicants should be based in or willing to be based in Nashville. Prior work experience in Tennessee and/or the Mid-South is very much preferred but not required. The position requires short-term travel to project sites throughout the Mid-South region for site visits and fieldwork duties. A valid driver’s license is required. 

Applicants should have at least two years’ relevant experience with tasks such as fieldwork, completing SHPO survey site forms and resource descriptions, researching historic contexts, and preparing NRHP eligibility evaluations. Applicants
should meet or exceed the qualifications set forth in the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural Historians and Historians (36CFR61), and hold a Masters’ Degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field. Experience with federal and state cultural resource management regulations, including a good working knowledge of NEPA and Section 106, is preferred.
 
Responsibilities include conducting detailed primary and secondary source historical research, technical report writing, NRHP eligibility evaluations, and HABS/HAER
documentation among others. Familiarity with the regional history and the
cultural and built environment of the Mid-South is desirable. The ability to
conduct intensive archival research (i.e. using deeds, census records, etc.)
and to write clear, cogent, and thorough historic contexts is a must. The ideal
candidate will be detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills, be able to manage priorities as well as meet project deadlines and budgets, and enjoy working in a team-oriented environment.  

RGA is one of the largest cultural resource consulting firms in the Mid-Atlantic, with a staff of Historians, Architectural Historians, and Archaeologists. This full-time position includes a competitive pay and benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a starting salary
range of $45-55,000.
